View web version  ISO at Davos 2024 – The highlights From thought-provoking discussions to transformative moments, the 2024 edition of the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos brought together global leaders from business, politics, science and culture from around the world. ISO actively took part in discussions focusing on tackling the world's biggest challenges – doubling down on standards as solutions for solving global issues. Partnership in action The theme of the 2024 meeting was "Rebuilding trust". The first step towards achieving this goal is fostering meaningful connections and engaging with partners. World challenges cannot be solved in isolation – global cooperation is key. Building on momentum captured at COP28, where the use of standards in the climate action space was met with great enthusiasm, ISO Secretary-General Sergio Mujica met with Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of the Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to discuss ISO's contributions at COP29. The Secretary-General also met with Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Smart Nation and Cybersecurity, Singapore, after a panel discussion on AI. The two spoke about the positive relationship with Sauw Kook Choy, Director General of ISO's member in Singapore. Spotlight on AI Artificial intelligence is set to become a driving force for the economy and society. A key area of focus during the week at Davos was on ensuring that technological advancements lead to shared, positive outcomes for the planet and our societies, requiring both innovation and guardrails. ISO participated in several sessions on AI – at the AI House Davos and the Ice Village (Affiliate Programme) – to discuss, pose questions, and offer International Standards as solutions. ISO leaders convened with prominent speakers from business and international organizations, fostering valuable discussions and insights. Among these were Doreen Bogdan-Martin, ITU Secretary-General, Andrew Ng, Founder and CEO of Landing AI, Founder of DeepLearning.AI and Managing General Partner of AI Fund, and Amandeep Gill, Envoy for Technology to the Secretary-General of the United Nations. ISO is working closely with its partners and the global community to align its portfolio of International Standards with the world's climate targets.
